When buying property in Cyprus, legal fees tend to be higher than those in the UK and in some instances, minimum rates are set are set by the
Cyprus Bar Association.
It may seem expensive and legal checks on a property may result in you having to wait before buying,
but you must not buy without taking independent legal advice.
You should discuss and agree legal fees with your lawyer
before
committing yourself to use their services. Once you have appointed a lawyer they should send you a Client Care letter setting out their terms of engagement and their fees.
You will need to sign a copy of this letter and return it together with:
A photocopy of the page of your passport showing your photograph and personal details.
Proof of your residential address i.e. photocopy of current utility account (showing your address).
Contact details such as telephone/fax numbers and e-mail address.
Once he/she has received the signed letter and other information, your lawyer
will be able to proceed on your behalf.
