Custom property construction: internal worksWith the external works moving towards a satisfactory conclusion, it's time to get started on the internal works - we're on the home lap.

For our custom built home, we bought granite for the floor of our open plan area and a local agent in Limassol imported it from Kashmir. Granite is much more suitable than marble as a flooring material. It is much harder-wearing than marble and does not absorb liquids.

After it's been fixed to the floor, the guys on the right honed it to a silk finish and then chemically treated the surface to prevent it absorbing any spilt liquids.

This photograph shows my granite floor being honed flat to a silk finish. Once this work is complete, the granite will undergo a chemical process known as crystallisation. Granite flooring in Cyprus not a luxury, it actually costs less than good quality fitted carpet in the UK!

My wife chose the Italian kitchen for our new home from a shop in Limassol & they have just finished customizing and installing it. The work surfaces and back-splash are made of a granite called 'blue pearl', which is widely available in Cyprus.

This is our guest bathroom. The units have been custom made  and the carpenter's been busy installing them. The work surfaces are finished in a granite called 'verde marinace'.

This is one of the Italian glass-fronted wardrobes in the master bedroom, which were supplied by a company in Nicosia. They were very competitively priced compared to the custom made wardrobes a local carpenter quoted for.
My custom property is finished!

Our new home in Cyprus is finished!

After 15 months, our new home is finished. All my wife and I need to do is check that everything is satisfactory, pay the builder, and take deliver of our new home in Cyprus.

Building a custom property in Cyprus requires a good deal of thought and effort. Overall, we found it a very enjoyable experience. Both our builder and architect were first class.
